The seemingly simplistic shapes and arrangements within my paintings do not come from a Pop Art or cartooning tradition but are a result of improvised drawing – ‘playing’ with line within a prescribed set of rules. Playing the ‘game’ of lining things up and jig-sawing shapes together is how each work develops through drawing and collage work using iPad software.

Most of my work does not depict any particular place or scenario (I never work from direct observation), instead the ‘subject’ of the painting is determined by the shape and colour of the chosen objects and backdrops, creating a montage which may trigger ideas and feelings for the viewer through recognition and memory.

My interest (and training) in Abstraction, Cubism and Minimalism continues to influence the outcome and therefore, in essence, the formally arranged composition embedded within a geometric assembly is everything!
