PROFILE
Born in Oxford and growing up in England, Penny’s career has been in teaching, which led her to live and work in Italy and then for many years in Devon. She now lives in Alferce high in the Serra de Monchique, where she has her studio.
“My paintings are all about being in the natural world around me. My style is painterly. I work mostly with acrylic paints but also use oils, crayons and pastels, aspiring to recall the beauty, colour and feeling of a place.”
Penny has always been fascinated by the immensity of landscape, the lie of the land, the sculptural forms of the mountains, hills and coast-line. Beautiful skies and views and the sound of the wind in the trees, the many colours and varieties of flowers, plants and trees are her inspiration. Since childhood she has enjoyed sketching as a means of feeling her way into a landscape.
I love exhibiting my paintings and also enjoy taking on commissions for a painting of your choice.
