Sónia was born in Leiria in 1976 and qualified with a degree in teaching in the Basic Education Teachers - Visual and Technological Education at ESEL. Determined to seek her artistic identity, she started with experimenting with different techniques in painting, drawing and illustration from a very early age. 
She has participated in individual, collective and international exhibitions in various artistic spaces and art galleries. She belongs to the Associação Peace and Art Society (PAS) and won second place in the artistic contest “Hans Christian Andersen… The Boy who wanted to be an Actor, Singer, Dancer”. 
Along side her painting, Sónia is also a dedicated photographer and has participated in photography Contests, achieving third prize in the photographic marathon “Imagens e Culturas” in Albufeira.
Elaborate portraits are a feature of her work which are produced in pencil, graphite and mixed media techniques. She specializes in the customization of everyday items (jeans, coats, bags, sneakers, etc.),transforming a simple everyday item into a work of personalized art.
“Art has existed in me from a very early age, as I have always had artistic experiences, I work with young people and I always try to encourage them to explore techniques and materials and accept challenges! My ambition is to become a full-time artist!”
